Orenda Education (“Orenda,” “we,” “us”) runs this website. This policy explains what we collect when you visit the site or contact us through it, how we use that information, and the choices you have.

This policy covers this website, including its contact form. It does not cover:

• Orenda’s online tools and the services we provide to districts. Those have their own privacy terms.
• Other websites we link to, such as event registration and donation pages. See Other websites.

What we collect

Information you give us

When you use the contact form, we collect:

• Your first and last name and your email address.
• Your district or organization and your role, if you give them.
• The topics you’re interested in and your message, if you add them.
• Whether you asked to receive the Orenda newsletter.

Please don’t include student information or other sensitive details in your message. Anything you write there reaches our team’s inbox with the rest of the form. If you email or call us directly, we receive whatever you choose to share.

Information collected automatically

• Like any website, ours is delivered by a hosting provider, Microsoft Azure, which receives your network address and browser details to send you each page. We don’t keep request logs.
• We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It records the page you view, the page that linked to it, your browser and device type, your country, and how quickly the page loaded. It uses no cookies, no local storage, and no fingerprinting, and nothing in it identifies you to us. It isn’t loaded at all when your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track.
• When you send the contact form, we record a one-way, keyed hash of your network address and the times you sent the form, so we can limit repeated submissions. We never store the address itself. We also count how many messages the form sends each day.
• The form checks for automated submissions, for example by how quickly it was filled in. Those checks aren’t stored.

What we don’t collect

• No student information. Nothing on this website asks for it, and the site stores none.
• No advertising or tracking cookies. The only script from another company is Cloudflare’s cookieless visit counter, described above and under Cookies and similar technologies.
• No information from children. This site is meant for adults who work in or with schools, and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

How we use it

• To read and answer your message. Your inquiry is emailed to our team, with your email address as the reply-to.
• To follow up with you about the Orenda services you asked about.
• To send the newsletter, only if you asked for it. Our team adds you to the newsletter list in Mailchimp.
• To prevent abuse of the contact form, such as automated or repeated submissions.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share it only with the service providers below, who act on our instructions, and with authorities when the law requires it.

If you play a video on our site, your browser connects to YouTube directly, as described under Cookies and similar technologies.

If Orenda is ever merged, acquired, or reorganized, the information described here may transfer to the successor under this same policy. We don’t share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing, so California’s “Shine the Light” law (Civil Code §1798.83) requires no further disclosure.

How long we keep it

• Contact form inquiries, in our team’s inbox: as long as we need them to respond and follow up, then deleted.
• The contact form’s limit records (the keyed hash and send times): 30 days after their last use, then deleted.
• Newsletter sign-ups, in Mailchimp: until you unsubscribe.
• Your cookie preferences: in your browser, until you clear its site data.
• Visit statistics, in Cloudflare Web Analytics: as aggregate counts that identify no one.

Your choices and rights

• Unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any issue.
• Access, correct, or delete the information we hold about you by emailing privacy@orendaed.org. We’ll confirm your identity by replying to the email address we have for you, and respond within 45 days.
• Turn embedded video off or on with the Cookie preferences link at the bottom of any page.

California residents

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose, the right to request its deletion, the right to correct it, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We don’t sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. To exercise these rights, email privacy@orendaed.org. An authorized agent may act for you with your written permission.

Of the categories the California Consumer Privacy Act lists, this website asks for these and no others.

We honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals, as described in Cookies and similar technologies.

How we protect your information

• The site is served only over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and loads no scripts from other companies, apart from Cloudflare’s cookieless visit counter.
• The contact form never stores your network address, only a one-way keyed hash of it.
• Your inquiry isn’t stored on the website. It goes straight to our team’s inbox.
• No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee it. If you think information you sent us has been misused, email privacy@orendaed.org.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Browsers can also keep similar data in “local storage.” This section explains what our website stores and how you can control it.

What we use

• Essential. When you save your cookie preferences, we keep that choice in your browser’s local storage so we don’t ask again. The site needs this to work, so it can’t be turned off.
• Embedded video (optional). Videos on our site, such as the homepage video and podcast episodes, are hosted on YouTube. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, and a player doesn’t load until you click play. Once it loads, YouTube may store data in your browser and collect information about your viewing, as described in Google’s Privacy Policy. You can also watch any of our videos on YouTube.com instead.

What we don’t use

We don’t use analytics, advertising, or social media tracking cookies, and we don’t allow other companies to track you across our site for advertising. Our visit counter, Cloudflare Web Analytics, uses no cookies or local storage. We don’t sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Your choices

• Use the Cookie preferences link at the bottom of any page to turn embedded video off or back on. When it’s off, we ask before any video loads.
• You can also block or delete cookies and site data in your browser’s settings. The site works fully without them.
• We honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. If your browser sends either signal, embedded video starts off and we ask before any video loads, unless you turn video on in Cookie preferences, and the visit counter isn’t loaded at all. We don’t sell, share, or track your information for advertising whether or not your browser sends a signal.

Other websites

Our site links to other services, such as social media, event registration, and donation pages. Once you leave our site, those services’ own privacy and cookie policies apply.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If the change is material, we’ll also say so at the top of this page.
